A Conversation On Twitter

I had a conversation on Twitter with a fellow twitterer. He was responding to a comment I made, or tweet as we twitterers call it, and this is how the conversation went:
Me: Why it is that we sabotage our own goals and dreams by not committing the time and effort needed?
Him: Because saying yes is very different from doing yes.
Me: But if our goals and dreams are really what we want, shouldn't saying yes be really as good as doing yes?
Him: In life, many people know what to do. But only few actually do what they
know.
Me: I agree with you. But why are humans, me included, like that?
Him: They bought into the hordes of lies sold by their peers, parents, associates,
media, etc.
Me: Very interesting. We already know what to do. All we need to do is to trust in ourselves and do it. :)
Him: Trusting in ourselves only works when we do not have the wrong and distorted
image of ourselves.
Me: But we are going
around in circles. We might not be able to trust ourselves, and we might be
taken in by the lies of others, so on what can we trust?
Him: Who/what to trust? If you were to ask me, I won't be shy in giving you the
answer: Psalm 118:8. :)
(Psalm 118:8 - It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.)
Me: But if I can't trust myself, how can I trust that my decision to trust in God is the right decision? ;)
Him: You know that you know that you know.
Me: Do I? Do we really know anything at all? But I think this is getting a little too "deep". I was actually ranting about being lazy. :)
He never replied after that. I checked and he was still online and twittering.
Just to give you a little background, this was the first and only time that we were chatting. In his profile, he said that he is a Christian and a Jesus lover, while my profile was non religious in nature.
I'm not sure what to think of this. Maybe I'm just overreacting. But overall, I'm just a little disappointed. He seemed a nice guy, and he wanted to chat and he was offering some interesting insights, but he just shut up when I did not buy what he was trying to say.
I could read a lot into this simple conversation and persue a few different angles, but I will shut up now, and invite comments. I would really like to know what you think.

That was my thought as well. But there is something that is just so wrong about it. Firstly, by simply dispensing his wisdom and moving on, he comes across as extremely arrogant.
And secondly, if he really believes that I'm going to burn in hell for all of eternity if I do not accept the Lord, he could have made an effort. I know that if I were in his place I would have done a lot more.
I was geniunely interested in him and what he had to say, and he just walked away.
Maybe I should listen to big sis and wise up to the ways of the world.
Never do that, beloved Little Bro, or you become just like them. There aren't enough sensitive people in the world as it is. Please heaven, let's not lose you!

I'm just 21, still bright eyed and bushy tailed. As I go out into this world, I will take the best of the good people that I meet and try to make it my own. And the bad people I meet will be a reminder of what I can become if I'm not careful.
Don't worry, not planning to go over to the dark side anytime soon. :)
Did I give you the exact opposite advice? It's not me going over to the dark side - it's the phases of the moon messing with my Moon Child brain!

Hi Wandererh, from reading this I would have to agree with mindfield. Sounds like you got into a conversation with a christian salesman for Jesus. When you showed the signs of not buying the product he was selling, he decided it was time to fish somewhere else.
You asked him a lot of good questions and he answered them until he realised he was not going to make the sale, or maybe he was also conversing with what he believed to be a bigger fish. Please don't ever give up asking questions Wandererh, that is the only way we find our answers :-) Enjoyed the hub.
That I will definitely do - ask questions that is. And I will remain open to any and all, even christian salesmen, so that perhaps I will have my answer one day.
So good to hear that my friend. A seeker will always find what they are seeking, as long as they do not give up. There is nothing wrong with being open minded to Christian salespeople. Christians also have a lot of good information and answers to contribute to a person's quest. :-)
I have lived long enough to realise that I do not have all the answers, and that answers do pop up in the most unexpected of places. ;)
You are lucky that answers pop up from unexpected places. In my case they do not even pop up from expected places. I always keep checking if I have unticked pop up blockers ... and I always find that I have. :)
On a serious note, I think that if you are looking are an answer, you will find it, whether in an expected or unexpected place. But if you are not looking, the answer might be right in front of your nose, but you are not going to see it.
On the other hand, you unticked pop up blockers?!?! You are really looking for answers. :)

I just found this Hub and I think that conversation was quite interesting. I also understand your frustration, as it could have led to something much more profound.
"Do we really know anything at all?" Excellent question, one which I ask myself all the time! I believe we truly don't (and can't) "know" anything to be absolute fact, but that we reach a level of satisfaction with assumed, evidence-based "truths." Even so, there's a whole world out there to explore, and every life experience contains a wealth of lessons, if we're willing to observe and learn.
There's so much more that it brings to mind, but I'll leave it at that for now!
BennyTheWriter - Yes, it is unfortunate that he stopped that conversation just when it was getting interesting. And I do agree with you that we cannot know something to be absolute fact, and that even science facts are simply proven to an adequate level of satisfaction.
Anyway, I sense a hub in there somewhere. :)

Bro - They have a product they are selling. It's called Cheeses of Nazareth (oops, I mean Jesus). When you show no interest in buying, they're on to their next prospect.
